The Consultation
We begin with a conversation. This is an opportunity to understand how you live, how you relax, and what you expect from your lounge chair. We discuss your home, your interior, your preferences and the role the chair will play within the space.
Where appropriate, Andrew will visit your home, allowing the room itself to become part of the design process. Light, proportion, existing furniture and architectural features are all carefully considered, ensuring the finished piece feels entirely at home.
The Curation
Andrew works with exceptional textile suppliers to source fabrics that complement both your vision and your interior.
Curated fabric samples and finish options are delivered directly to your home, allowing you to experience them in your own surroundings, under natural light and alongside your existing furnishings. Every decision can be made with confidence and without compromise.
The Fitting
Every Andrew S. Johnson lounge chair can be tailored to your individual proportions. Measurements are refined to create the ideal seating position, considering factors such as seat height, seat depth, back angle and overall ergonomics.
These subtle adjustments create a chair that feels instinctively comfortable, because it has been built around the person who will use it.
The Build
With the smallest detail agreed, the design enters the workshop in Nottingham.
Each chair is handcrafted from aluminium, combining precision engineering with meticulous hand-finishing. Every frame is carefully fabricated before receiving its final finish, chosen to complement your commission. Whether electrostatically sprayed to achieve a flawless contemporary surface or polished by hand to reveal the natural beauty of the aluminium, each finish is applied with uncompromising attention to detail.
Once the frame has been expertly prepared and primed, the chosen colour is applied using electrostatic spraying. This process creates an exceptionally even coating, allowing the paint to bond uniformly to the aluminium and produce a beautifully refined finish.
A clear protective topcoat is then applied to seal the surface, enhancing the depth of colour while providing excellent resistance to UV light, wear and everyday use. The result is a finish that is both visually striking and engineered to retain its beauty for years to come.

The aluminium frame
The aluminium frame is cut to size, as a foot press then creates the glorious curves. Once the frame has passed Andrew S. Johnson’s exact standards it is then machine polished. It is a precise process and ensures that we can provide our clients with the very highest quality finish.
The upholstery
Each stitch is exquisitely performed. As our leathers age they gather little lines, adding to the character of the lounge chairs and showing that they have been truly loved. The B-9 is a piece to be passed from generation to generation. Finishing of the frame
To achieve a flawless and durable finish, each aluminium frame is prepared with the same attention to detail found in the automotive industry.
The aluminium is first meticulously cleaned to remove any contaminants before receiving a specialist primer, creating the ideal foundation for the final finish. The colour is then applied using an electrostatic spraying process, where electrically charged paint particles are attracted evenly to the metal surface. This ensures exceptional coverage, crisp edges and a beautifully consistent finish.
The result is a smooth, resilient coating that enhances the character of the chair while providing lasting protection for years of everyday use.
